Synthpop favorites BOOK OF LOVE were beloved dance club staples before striking the cross-over championships throughout the Eighties. An American synthpop electronic band formed by former art school students, they gained first exposure as the opening act for two Depeche Mode tours in 1985 and 1986. One of the first groups of the era to bring a feminist perceptive which was sorely lacking in the scene, they are respected as "forward thinking" for the boldness of their lyrics highlighting sexual orientation and gender roles. The bands biggest success came on the US dance charts, placing seven singles in the Billboard Hot Dance Club Play chart between 1985 and 1993 including “Boy” which was a toe-tapping tale of teen-girl angst, "I Touch Roses”, and "Pretty Boys And Pretty Girls", one of the first songs to openly address the then-taboo subject of AIDS. it become a Hot 100 entry, peaking at number 90. The band's song "Modigliani (Lost In Your Eyes)" was featured in the 1987 John Hughes film Planes, Trains & Automobiles, the song "Sunny Day" was featured in the movie The Silence of the Lambs, "Enchanted," from the band's Lovebubble album, appeared on the soundtrack to the 1993 film Naked in New York, and "I Touch Roses," was featured in the 2000 movie "American Psycho.” Part of House of Independents New Wave Knights series.
